Day 21 – The crowd wanted Jesus crucified

Mat 27:19-23 (NKJV)

While he (Pilate) was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.” 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas!” 22 Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!” 23 Then the governor said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”

The devil stirred up the masses to do his will. They were in a frenzy and when that occurs, all hell tends to break loose. Free a convicted murder over someone who healed the sick, raised the dead, set captives free…doesn’t make sense. No one in their right mind would choose such a thing. But they did! Why? Because lives that are not submitted to God and His Holy Word can be easily swayed by the masses. On Jesus’ Journey to the Cross, the people were sometimes with Him and sometimes not. One moment they were laying down palm leaves and the other they were striking Him with closed palms. Victory in Life requires us to not be taken off course by the fickleness of the crowd. One minute you can do no wrong, the next, you’re all wrong. Don’t allow yourself to be swayed by the crowd, but rather, learn to be led by the Spirit of the living God.
