Mat 27:24-26 (NKJV)
When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.” 25 And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.” 26 Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.
The dangerous part of Christ’s Journey to the Cross now begins. We see Pilate unwilling to deal with Him and washing his hands of the issue – a sad attempt to pass the buck. Yet, after declaring He was innocent, he still had Jesus brutally scourged with leather whips, with bones and metal pieces attached to the ends of the cords. There is no other way to describe this treatment, but to call it what it was…torture. It was absolutely, without a doubt, inhuman treatment which severely wounded our Savior. Yet, scripture describes every slash of the cords, as healing for His people, “By His strips we are healed”. Wow! I know, hard to completely comprehend. But, here’s the thing…if you truly desire to Live in Victory, then you must learn to accept that “by His strips, you were healed”. What He did, He did for you. What He went through, He went through it for you. Humbly accept it and with a deep sense of honor and gratefulness receive it as yours. Worship Him for the pain He endured for you and never forget that…“By His strips, you were healed”.
