Day 26 – Nasty people became even nastier

Mat 27:38-42 (NKJV)

Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left. 39 And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, 42 “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. 43 He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God. ‘” 44 Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing.

Wow! Even while on the cross vile words were flung at our Savior. You would think watching someone suffer a painful death would cause people to have compassion, but not this crew. They reviled Jesus up to His last breath, yet our Savior taught His church a great Victory in Life principle – Love Anyways. At many times during His Journey to the Cross, He could have lashed back, enlisted the help of an unseen, unstoppable army, but He didn’t. Getting even with His accusers could have been a real option, but He choose to Love Anyways. He didn’t see His tormentors as the enemy, He saw them as lost souls in desperate need of a Savior. True Victory in Life is being able to somehow work this out when face to face with such people. “Help us Lord to Love Anyways!”
