Jn 19:25-27 (NKJV)
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, ” Woman, behold your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, ” Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
Even while suffering a painfully slow and agonizing death, Jesus still reached out with love and compassion to those around Him. Love was just who He was. He couldn’t help but love. His was entwined with it…it was Him. On His Journey to the Cross, He had many opportunities to abandon love. Hatred surrounded Him but it couldn’t control Him. He wouldn’t let it. Doesn’t scripture say somewhere “without love we are nothing” and elsewhere that “love is the greatest of all gifts”? Victory in Life then demands us to remain in the arms of love. What employee wants to work for an unloving boss? Who likes doing life with angry and resentful people? I sure don’t. Let’s then cultivate and nourish our love walk, taking the example of our precious Savior with us to help carry us through.
