Day 28 – Jesus bore our sins

Mat 27:45-49 (NKJV)

Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ” Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47 Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, “This Man is calling for Elijah!” 48 Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. 49 The rest said, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.”

Our Savior suffered many things on His Journey to the Cross, but nothing hurt as much in knowing His Father turned His back on Him. The weight of our sin…I mean all our sins…every last sin…I don’t think you get it…every sin that ever was or is…was at that point…stuck to our Savior. Yah…every sin! I mean every sin…the most vile to the tinniest…all of it was thrust upon our Savior. An act He did willingly…FOR YOU! He bore it all! Are you catching this? Do you get it? We should have paid that penalty for our sins…but no, He paid it for us. He took it all and nailed it to the cross. Allow that to sink in ………………………..……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

At that moment, at that precise moment when the FULL weight of OUR sin was upon Him, at that very moment, God turned His back. He didn’t turn it on Jesus, but on the sin He bore. Why? God and sin don’t mix. Yes I know, there’s more to it than that, but space doesn’t permit it (study this out for yourself).  Victory in Life truly begins when we humbly…gratefully…with every fiber of our being, recognize the price our Savior bore for you and I.
