Love not the world

1 John 2:15-17 (ESV)Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Pretty heavy duty, I hope you understand its meaning. Do you remember when you were first born again, how you were compelled to move away from your previous lifestyle – from those actions, attitudes and agendas that governed you? This is what is being referenced – lifestyles that are present in those who do not follow Christ. The world can be defined as; life before Christ, life without Christ, a Christless life…wherever Christ isn’t that is the world. It’s governed by satan and when you received Christ, you were drawn to remove yourself from it. Here’s the problem, Christians are retuning to the worlds vomit. They are returning to a system of thinking mainly because they have not taken the necessary steps to ensure recapture (Psalm 91 speaks of a lifestyle that does not sway nor is susceptible to recapture). I know it’s not easy, but who said following Christ would be? Everywhere we turn, the worlds message rings loud and clear. More and more the message of repentance, of moral uprightness, of Christlikeness…etc, is being challenged, rebelled against, but we must rise above. We must return to clean living and to proclaiming Christ and His love to a world that has lost their way. We… yes you and me, are the hope of the world –  for we have been commissioned by Christ Himself to bring forth His word, His message of reconciliation to this lost and dieing world. Let’s then do it with all the passion we can muster!
