Acts 16:40 (ESV) So they went out of the prison and visited Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them and departed.
What an attitude! I mean really! Thrown into prison for doing nothing but preach the gospel. Treated as common criminals, their only crime was telling folk about Christ. Yet, through it all their attitude remained free. Thrown into prison, yet, free. Humiliated, yet unbound. These boys had all the reason in the world to get bitter or angry over how they were treated, yet they remained free. Free from anger, bitterness and unforgiveness. Rather than throw a pity party for themselves they choose to worship and tell more and more people about their Saviour, Jesus Christ. This is a great illustration of an Unleashed life. Bound, yet free. Shackled, yet chainless. My hope and prayer for you is during times of struggle, during those times where things seem to go from bad to worse, is that you’ll be seen encouraging others, rather than needing encouragement. Is this not what our spiritual mentors did? (Reread the verse) Paul and Si after being released from prison spent time with the church, encouraging them in the faith. You’d think if anyone needed encouragement it would have been them but when you’ve been unshackled by the power of His great love, all you think about is helping others get free or stay free. “Food for thought isn’t it?” Have a great day!
