Day 23 – The Gifts of Healing

Luke 8:43-48 (ESV) And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”

The Gifts of Healing are manifest for the supernatural healing of sickness and disease without any natural source or means. Healings refer to the renewing or repairing of a diseased state or condition, while a miracle is generally something in the creative scope.

Ex: A blind man with eyeballs receiving his sight is a healing, but a blind man with no eyeballs receiving eyeballs and seeing…is a miracle.

Ex: A lame man with legs walking is a healing but a lame man with no legs walking…is a miracle.

Every healing in the bible, except those obtained by general faith, came as a result of the release of this gift from one person to another. The gifts of healing as with the working of miracles, have nothing to do with medical science or human learning. It is a supernatural manifestation of God healing power.

Gifts of Healing can sometimes be explained away – But the workings of miracles…stands all by itself. Doctors and those in the various medical professions use natural means of healing, while the gifts of healing use supernatural means in order to achieve the desired result. Where medical science ends in their abilities… gifts of healing begins.

The purpose than for the gifts of healing – is to deliver the sick and to destroy the works of the devil in the human body. Have you ever wondered why this gift was put into the plural? The reason is because there are many diseases and sicknesses in the world and each one needs a specific gift of healing to counterattack it.

What is the difference between the Gifts of healing and receiving healing by faith? Gifts of healings are manifested through one person to another. While receiving healing by faith is between you and God. The woman with the issue of Blood in v43…exercised her own faith in approaching Jesus in order to receive her healing and pulled on the gifts of healing within Christ.
