Day 6 – Miracles and Prophecy

1 Corinthians 12:10 (NKJV)
To another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

Working of Miracles – This gift is a supernatural intervention by God in the ordinary course of nature or of ordinary events.

The gift of faith passively receives while the working of miracles actively does.

The gift of faith would receive the miracle, while the working of miracles performs the miracle.

The working of miracles is used to display God’s power and magnificence.

The Gift of Prophecy – This Gift is a supernatural utterance in a known tongue.

The Greek word translated Prophecy means – to speak for another. And in this case…to speak for God

Prophecy is the means whereby Christians (ordinary everyday people) speak for God or on behalf of God concerning matters important to the Father.

The purpose of prophecy is solely for the Strengthening or Edification, the Encouragement or Exhortation and Comfort of the Church.

People who prophecy – who speak forth words given to them by the spirit of God do so to strengthen, encourage and comfort the church.

Don’t confuse the spiritual gift of prophecy with that of the ministry gift of the prophet. Just because someone may prophecy, does not necessarily mean that they are a prophet. Scripture says, all can prophecy but all can’t be a prophet.

In the ministry of a prophet, God reveals things that are to come, via the Spiritual gift of the Word of Wisdom. Prophecy however, is not a prediction of the future, via a revelation of God, nor is it to be used for guidance.

The Gifts of the Spirit are meant to strengthen and encourage the church to be an effective witness to a lost and dying world. Here’s the thing: when You and I take the gifts given to us and sow them into the lives of those who don’t know Christ, well…our lives will begin to transform from the inside out. My prayer – “Lord give me some of that!”.
