Acts 10:44-48 (NLT)
Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message. 45 The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. 46 For they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God. Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.
Peter was wrapping up a great message when the Holy Spirit just…fell upon all who were listening…pretty cool! This is extremely similar to when the boys were in the upper room and the Holy Spirit just…fell upon all who were there and like with the upper room experience…all of them began to speak in other tongues. Freaky yes, but super cool. I mean one minute you’re listening to a message, maybe dozing off a little or distracted by your kids or a text message and the next, you’re speaking in tongues. God is so cool! This is another great example of how God loves blessing His kids with unexpected, over-the-top stuff. Some say, “what’s up with tongues?” Hey, I didn’t write the book nor did I have a say in all that has been done. All I know is tongues is such a wonderful blessing to the believer and I’m super grateful for this gift being activated in my life. Question the creator and giver of it, but Biblically it’s crystal clear that this blessing comes from being intimately connected with the Holy Spirit.
