1 Corinthians 14:12 (ESV)
So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.
There it is…one verse that sums up the entirety of this devotion. Everything about our Christian faith is supposed to be not about what is best for me, myself and I, but about what is best for our mission. Lest we forget what our mission is, read Matthew 28 and Mark 16 and the we part of ‘lest we forget’ is the church. Your bro and sis in Christ is the church and we have been mandated to build them up. The absolute Joy of a Spirit-Filled Life is being able to do just that – to excel in the various manifestation of the Spirit (see chapter 12) for the purpose of strengthening the Church. And did you catch what it says, “Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit”, eagerness my friends, yes, eagerness. It’s this…this…deep down desire, this unquenchable dream, this passion that drives you, to be so acquainted with the Spirit of God that nothing else really matters. It’s like seeing your babe after a long, long absence or waiting to finally meet someone you greatly admire…your eager. You can’t wait. In the moments leading up, you imagine and dream about what it will be like…yes, my friends, you’re eager, eager for the manifestations of the Spirit of God flowing through you. Eager, yes, eager.
