Romans 15:17-21 (ESV)
In Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to be proud of my work for God. 18 For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience—by word and deed, 19 by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God—so that from Jerusalem and all the way around to Illyricum I have fulfilled the ministry of the gospel of Christ; 20 and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation, 21 but as it is written, “Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.”
The great gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is to be proclaimed through not only words, but through deeds (v18). Those deeds are defined in the following verse – “by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God”. The question then remains, through whom do those gifts flow through? Was it strictly through Paul? Was it only through the early church? Was it only for a specific time in history in order to establish the church on a solid foundation or was it to be through all who believe? Your answer will greatly determine the outcome, for everything we do as born-again believers, must be done through faith. For me, the Joy of a Spirit-Filled Life is found right here in these verses, for there truly is no greater joy than what is found in witnessing people come to faith in Christ. And church, one of the ways this occurs is through a demonstration of the Spirit and power. The Holy Spirit mightily working through you and I to usher in the great end time harvest. Do you believe? Do you trust the Holy Spirit to work through you? I do and I’m daily being encouraged to trust even more.
